Information concerning a contribution from the Funds for Environmental Protection
Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management
Since 2009 PWiK Sp.z o.o. in Rybnik has been cooperating with the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Katowice within the implementation of the projects in the scope of environmental protection. The projects are as follows:
The “Environmental Protection Promotional Days” education campaign
On 4 May - 30 June 2010 Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji Sp. z o.o. in Rybnik carried out a campaign promoting the natural environment titled “Environmental Protection Days”. The main slogan of the campaign was “Treatment our common contemporary challenge”. The campaign was addressed to younger people in Rybnik and was very popular among students and teachers of the local schools as well as adult residents in the Rybnik district. According to the data obtained from application forms send by group leaders, approximately 1,800 people visited the technological line, educational path and laboratory in the urban waste water treatment plant in Rybnik Orzepowice.
The campaign obtained funds from the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Katowice.
The objective of the campaign was to increase ecological awareness of the residents, paying attention to the meaning of clean environment for the contemporary and future generations in Rybnik. The sanitary sewer systems allow to prevent contaminations of water and soil, thus it is so important to make everyone aware that it is worth using these possibilities and that everyone can contribute to the improvement of the quality of surroundings we live in.
The objective set was reached through the construction of educational path in a sewage treatment plant in Rybnik Orzepowice and then organization of visits of people interested in the environmental protection issue. The path enabled the presentation of the water treatment process through technological route in the treatment plant, familiarizing with the content of educational plates as well as hearing out a lecture provided by the treatment plant’s employees.
Authors of the campaign’s ideas and the content of lectures, plates, promoting materials and trail were the employees of PWiK sp. z o.o. in Rybnik who were pleased with the number of visitors as they were satisfied with the result of their work.
Use of renewable energy sources in the sewage treatment plant in Rybnik Orzepowice through combined heat and power from biogas.
The main objective of the project was to obtain advantageous changes in the natural environment both through changing the source of energy as well as its optimal use. Walling up combined heat and power production, desulphurization system and elimination of coal and electric boilers as well as limitation of the torch’s work to the minimum, resulted in reduction of emission to air and waste produced that were solid fuels products. The gas burning in a co-generator enables safe use of energy characteristics of waste substances including biogas and lowering the dust emission and sulphur dioxide emitted into the air. The dust emission was decreased due to the liquidation of coalfired heat sources and sulphur dioxide in relation to the starting up biogas desulphurization plant and elimination of coal as a energy carrier. The economic effects of the undertaking were also not without significance when making a decision. Thanks to the use of own resource, the investment gives an opportunity to meet own energy needs of the sewage treatment plant as well as obtain additional revenue from the sales of energy certificates.
“Construction of sanitary water supply system for Rybnik – Kłokocin, Stage II and III”
A project titled “Construction of sanitary water supply system for Rybnik – Kłokocin, Stage II and III” is the continuation of wastewater and sewage management systems programme in Rybnik.
In the updated National Urban Wastewater Treatment Program (Krajowy Program Oczyszczania Ścieków Komunalnych AKPOŚK 2010), the Rybnik conurbation including Rybnik, Jejkowice and Gaszowicew of No. PLSL017 was mentioned as a priority agglomeration. This is the agglomeration above p.e. 100,000 for which in 2015 compliance requirements related to the agglomeration were imposed in the scope of sewage and sludge management.
Currently there is no wastewater collection system in the area covered with the Task II and Task III. The sewage in households and schools is collected in holding tanks and then transported with sewage vehicles used for sewage treatment. It is not excluded that the technical condition of the existing condition is poor and causes feeding ground waters with sewage collected in the tanks. Within the project over 12 km of sewage networks as well as a sewage pumping station will be built, whereas the sewage will be transported to the sewage treatment plant and then undergo the cleaning procedures.
