University of Nevada, Reno USA as a partner for the Polish water company and  scientific facility.

On 9 May 2019 in the City of Reno, Nevada U.S., the cooperation agreement between the University of Nevada, Reno and the The Water and Sewage Limited Liability Company in Rybnik as well as the Central Mining Institute in Katowice was concluded. Signatories to the Agreement were: Krishna Pagilla – Director of the  Water Innovation Institute in the City of Reno, Janusz Karwot – the President of the Management Board of the PWiK Sp. z o.o. in Rybnik and Jan Bondaruk – Deputy Director for Environmental Engineering of the Central Mining Institute in Katowice (photo).

The long-term cooperation which was established few days ago is aimed at exchanging experiences and latest technologies in the scope of wastewater industry for further implementation of global innovations in the above-mentioned facilities. One of the results of this Agreement is the creation of a platform for cooperation, i.e.: The International Water Center of Excellence, which will enable implementation of scientific research, including commercialization and actions for local and international societies which are crucial for the water supplies global protection, operation of water supply and sewerage infrastructure as well as challenges that business sector and science face due to circular economy intending to limit maximally the negative influence of human activities on the environment.

The University of Nevada, Reno is one the most prestigious and active research facilities in the united States of America. The scientific facility may influence effectively on the improvement in life conditions not only in Nevada but also in the world through the above-mentioned Nevada Water Innovation and its involvement in scientific research and actions taken for international societies and business sector.

The Polish representative - The Water and Sewage Limited Liability Company in Rybnik and the Central Mining Institute in Katowice are the institutions that have been conducting cooperation between science and industry successfully, while increasing the innovativeness and technologies in the scope of wastewater and water supply, taking into account global environmental protection.

Increased reduction of biogenic compounds through optimization of the biological wastewater treatment process in the Rybnik -Orzepowice water treatment plant

Scientific Partner - the Central Mining Institute in Katowice

The project co-financed from the resources of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education

The patent application P.421632: a method of biological wastewater treatment”.

Key words: cooperation between the industry and scientific areas, innovation, increased effectiveness of the wastewater treatment processes, environmental protection, biotechnology.

Description

The general objective of the project is to develop and implement optimal technological and logistical solutions for the water treatment plant within the existing biological treatment stage technology providing meeting higher requirements in the reduction of biogenic compounds after the expected exceeding of the 100,000 p.e. limit.
Specific objectives are as follows:

  • Implementation of the integrated biotreatment chambers monitoring and controlling systems, taking into account a diagnosis of activated sludge optimal parametres,
  • Development and implementation of a prototypal organic carbon dosing system for the maximization of nitrogen elimination (below 10 mg TN/l in waste water or reduction of TN at least 85 %).

According to the forecasts, after 2012 the water treatment plant shall operate at the level over 100,000 p.e. which will be a result of the implemented undertaking within the Cohesion Fund and ISPA until 2009 and liquidation of local water treatment plants over susbequent years (and replacing them with pumping stations).
