3. Sewage system operation monitoring and management system in the City of Rybnik Beneficiary: Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji Sp. z o.o. in Rybnik

The project co-financed by the European Union within the European Regional Development Fund
The project implemented within the Operational Programme - Improvement of the competitiveness of enterprises with the participation of the Silesian University of Technology The objective of the project titled: “Sewage system operation monitoring and management system in the City of Rybnik” means increased innovativeness of methods and tools used in the management of Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji sp. z o.o. in Rybnik. The Rybnik waterworks aspire to make the quality of services provided increased with the use of innovative water supply network monitoring methodology as well as supporting the technical facilities operation management.
Taking into account the specificity of business activity and needs, two fundamental fields have been distinguished which the project is aimed at:
- detection of untypical situations in the water supply network (detection of potential failures in the network or stealing water),
- supporting the operation of sewage and water supply network in the scope of planning renovations or modernisations.
The continuation of research works aimed at developing the neuron model of the water supply network was to create a prototype IT system. Among others, the system analyses data coming from the network monitoring as well as signals and indicates places of uncontrolled flow of water from the network automatically. The system’s advantage is that it is based on a small number of sensors.
A positive impact of the project on the environment is worth emphasizing. It is a part of the global idea of the rational management of natural resources.
The project was implemented in accordance with the Consortium Agreement with the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. The research team of the Silesian University of Technology included scientists from the Institute of Fundamentals of Machinery Design and the Institute of Fundamentals of Technical Systems.
